Exclusions from the New Scheme
The benefits for pensioners whose pensions are already in payment at 1 April 2008 and deferred members who left the scheme before 1 April 2008 remain unchanged. They are NOT ELIGIBLE for the benefits of the new Scheme, particularly:
- A pension based on 1/60 per year of service with optional (rather than compulsory) lump sum
- The increased pensions guarantee on death, so their position remains as:
- 5x actual pension in the event of the death of a pensioner
- 3x deferred pension for leavers who have not yet drawn their pension
- The revised survivor benefits including the ability to nominate a cohabiting partner, so their position remains as:
- widow’s, widower’s or civil partner’s pension of 50% for the long term, with 100% pension for 3 or 6 months following death of the original member
- The new 3 tier ill health retirement benefits, so their position remains as:
- Single tier benefit payable if members certified as permanently incapable of continuing their own or comparable Local Government employment until age 65 based on accrued membership, with a tiered system of enhancements depending on length of membership
