Scheme Membership
The current membership of the Wiltshire Pension Fund comes from three types of employer:
- Scheduled Bodies - County, District and Unitary Councils, Police Authority, Fire Authority, City Academies, etc
- Designating Bodies – typically Town/Parish Councils (subject to the body having resolved to allow their employees to join)
- Admission Bodies – all bodies that are not Scheduled or Designating Bodies (subject to the employee meeting the conditions of the Admission Agreement between the Fund and the Admission Body)
As a general rule, teachers and uniformed police and fire officers are not eligible for the LGPS.
To be eligible for active membership, a scheme member must have a mutual obligation contract of more than 3 months duration and be under 75 years of age.
There are three categories of membership:
- Active Members – current contributing members in employment
- Deferred Members – former contributing members who have left the Fund and their benefits are frozen until retirement
- Pensioner Members – retired members who are drawing a pension from the Fund
At the time of writing, there are approximately 20,000 Active Members, 12,500 Deferred Members and 9,000 Pension Members in the Wiltshire Pension Fund.
