Deferred Pensioner
If you leave the pension scheme before normal retirement date, your pension contributions will automatically be put into a deferred pension. This is also sometimes referred to as a preserved or 'frozen benefit'.
You will be sent a letter telling you about the current value of your pension and lump sum. Your pension benefits will increase each year in line with inflation and we will send you a deferred benefit statement each year to show this.
There are other choices you can make about your pension benefits:
- You can have a refund of the contributions you have paid if you have less than 3 months pensionable service and started in the scheme after 1st April 2004
- You can transfer your pension benefits to a new pension provider.
You will be sent a decisions form which will tell you about your choices. If you decide to keep your benefits with the Wiltshire Pension Fund we will write to you when you reach retirement age to pay your pension and lump sum. For this reason, it is important to keep us informed of all of your address changes.
You can find more detailed information in our Brief Guide to the Pension Scheme or deferred benefits factsheet.
